THE SIGNIFICANCE OF SERUM CHOLESTEROL IN THYROID DISEASE 1

Abstract
Serum precipitable iodine and cholesterol were compared in large series of patients with and without disorders of thyroid function. Cholesterol is of no aid in the detection of overactivity of the thyroid. Although it rises in outspoken uncomplicated hypo-thyroidism, its concn. is not correlated with the degree of thyroid deficiency. Reasons for this lack of correlation are discussed.
