Abstract
A novel concept for a monochromator in the 'difficult' soft-X-ray region is described. Using a multilayer/KAP combination an energy resolution of approximately 0.8 eV can be obtained for photon energies between 550-1000 eV. Its practical value is demonstrated with applications for soft-X-ray absorption spectroscopy. A detailed comparison is given with existing monochromators based on gratings and on double crystals, and potential improvements are discussed. Keywords
