Abstract
C19 steroids were studied in urine from children and adults of both sexes, using gradient elution separation on an alumina column and subsequent identification by paper chromatography. With the technique used, no dehydroepiandrosterone was found in the urine from normal boys and girls. This appears to be the first report in which the 11-oxy C19 steroids have been separated individually and compared by the same technique in normal children and adults. The boys excreted twice as much 11-OH-androsterone as did the girls. The total urinary 11-oxysteroids in children were higher than the total 11- deoxysteroids. On the contrary, the urinary 11-deoxysteroids in the urine of adults were much higher than the urinary 11-oxysteroids.Keywords
