Abstract
A modified OAAD method, using PMS [pregnant mare''s serum-human chorionic gonado-tropin] PMS-HCG primed rats maintained in an extended pseudopregnant-like state with estrogen treatment, is described. Accumulated evidence is presented to show that the estrogen treatment improves the assay by increasing OAAD responsiveness over a range of low doses of LH; prolonging (from 2-5 days to 2-3 weeks) the period during which assay rats can be used; and allowing the quality of a given assay to be anticipated with reasonable assurance. The specificity of the OAAD response does not appear to be altered, in comparisons with the parent method.
