IDIOPATHIC HYPOPARATHYROIDISM AND CHRONIC ADRENAL INSUFFICIENCY: A CASE REPORT

Abstract
A patient with idiopathic hypoparathyroidism in whom adrenocortical insufficiency subsequently developed, is reported. Associated findings were: mild steatorrhea; a Salmonella panama infection of the gastrointestinal tract which responded to treatment with chloramphenicol; biliary calculi; a low renal threshold for Ca; and an apparent subsidence of the hypoparathyroidism for a period immediately following onset of the adrenal insufficiency. Effective control of the electrolyte abnormalities was maintained with cortisone, desoxycorticosterone acetate, Na chloride, vit. D and Ca lactate.
