Abstract
In a recent article by Chen et al. [Phys. Rev. B 31, 7989 (1985)] a careful analysis of the spin splitting of the conduction electrons in InSb and its anisotropy is performed. As a result, it is possible to separate the contribution to the g factor of the conduction electrons due to the spin-orbit splitting of the valence band () from other contributions (4). The latter are usually attributed to the spin splitting of the conduction band. We show here that the contribution of the spin-orbit splitting of the conduction band is one order of magnitude smaller than needed to explain . Instead, we propose that spin-orbit coupling between and accounts quantitatively for the observed value of .
