Effect of Exogenous Oxytocin on the Progestogen Content of the Bovine Corpus Luteum1

Abstract
The effect was studied of in vivo treatment with injected oxytocin on the progestogen content of the bovine corpus luteum. Treated corpora lutea had a significantly (p <.01) greater content of both 4-pregnene-20/3-ol-3-one (20/3-ol) and proges- terone than control corpora. However, during in vitro incubation, control corpora lutea synthesized significantly more 20/3-ol (p <.05) and progesterone (p <.01) than treated corpora. The addition of pregnenolone to the incubation medium caused a significant (p <.05) increase in 20/3-ol and progesterone. However, this increase was not significantly different between control and treated glands.
