Abstract
A method is described for obtaining concentrates of plasma Ac-globulin. With the use of this method it is possible to obtain a product of greater purity than previously described. Serum Ac-globulin is required for the interaction of purified prothrombin, purified platelet factor 3, purified platelet cofactor I, and Ca ions. If Ac-globulin is present in high concentration the interaction of the purified clotting factors produces adequate quantities of thrombin to supply serum Ac-globulin from plasma Ac-globulin. With low concentrations of plasma Ac-globulin it is necessary to add purified thrombin at zero time of the interactions to meet the requirements for serum Ac-globulin. It is believed that the initiation of blood clotting does not occur extensively by the interactions of the clotting factors described above. It is more likely that the most frequent sequence of events in the initiation of prothrombin activation involves tissue thrombo-plastin and all those factors which make it effective including platelet factor 1 (platelet accelerator). Keywords
