Abstract
A modification of the K intoxication-test of Truszkowski and Duiszynska was adapted to [male] albino adrenalectomized rats. It was observed that both alkali insoluble and alkali insoluble ketonic fractions of normal [male] urine contained material which influenced K metabolism in a way comparable to that of desoxycorticosterone acetate or adrenal extract. Following oral admn. of known quantities of NaCl 1/2 hr. after the oral admn. of adrenal extract, urinary extract, or desoxycorticosterone acetate, the Na excretion for a 4 hr. period was detd. An increased Na excretion was observed following 2 ml. extract or urinary extract equivalent to as much as 9 liters of urine. A Na retention was observed following 8 mg. desoxycorticosterone acetate. Keywords
