Abstract
Four species of the Ceramiaceae and 1 sp. of the Delesseriaceae are newly reported from North Carolina, USA. The genera to which they belong are also previously unknown in this region. Antithamnionella atlantica (Cabral de Oliveira) comb. nov. [basonym: Antithamnion atlanticum] was collected for the 1st time outside of its type locality in Brazil and A. breviramosa (Dawson) Wollaston (syn. Antithamnion tristicum, Joly et Yamaguishi) is reported for the 1st time in the western Atlantic Ocean. Antithamnionella flagellata (Borgesen) Abbott was previously known only from Mauritius, St. Croix and Belize. Callithamniella tingitana (Schousboe ex Bornet) Feldmann-Mazoyer, another taxon formerly known in the western Atlantic only from Brazil, is also reported and evidence is presented to support its retention in the genus Callithamniella, Calloseris halliae J. Agardh, previously known from only 2 specimens collected in Florida, is reported for the 1st time in this century and redescribed. This publication has 8 references indexed in Scilit:
