Abstract
Some potentially verifiable predictions based on the formulation of tolerance presented are given. It should prove possible to produce tolerance by in vitro incubation of antigen with pure cultures of lymphocytes. By appropriate destruction or blockade of the reticuloendothelial system, it should be possible to convert an immunizing dose of antigen to a tolerance-producing dose. It should be difficult, if not impossible, to produce tolerance to buried or internal determinants of an antigen. It might prove possible to release a cell from the inhibition of tolerance by removal of the antigen (perhaps by enzymatic digestion). These theories will be superseded, if not totally ignored, in the next review on tolerance.This publication has 75 references indexed in Scilit:
