Abstract
In chronic nephritis without edema, subacute nephritis with renal edema, (nephrosis syndrome), and acute hemor-rhagic nephritis plasma vol. is above and circulating red cell and total blood vol. are below normal. Plasma vol. tends to vary directly with the serum albumin conc. and blood nonprotein N and indirectly with the degree of anemia present. During diuresis there is a tendency for the plasma vol. to increase due chiefly to an increase in serum albumin. The interrelationship of changes in the plasma and circulating red cell vol. is such that the total blood vol. is always below normal in all stages of the disease. This publication has 11 references indexed in Scilit:
