Hypercalcemia and gastric secretion in man.

Abstract
Calcium (15 mg/kg in a liter of 0.9% saline) was infused over a 4-hr. period into 8 adult male patients. Each subject also received a control infusion of saline and a Histalog test using 1.5 mg/kg. The serum Ca rose a mean of 3.8 mg/100 ml and gastric acid secretion increased in all 8 subjects. The mean peak secretion during Ca infusion was 30% of Histalog-stimulated secretion. It is concluded that hypercalcemia is associated with an increase in gastric acid secretion in man.
