Abstract
Thyroglobulin (Pro- , loid), Parke, Davis'' thyroid and Armour''s thyroid were used in obese patients, 1 gr. of the extract t.i.d. Tachycardia was observed in 5% of the patients using Thyroglobulin, 16% in those receiving Parke, Davis'' thyroid and 12% in patients who received Armour''s thyroid. Other toxic manifestations were displayed about equally. A statistical evaluation of the pulse rate demonstrated no significant variations. No change in either systolic or diastolic blood pressure was noted. All of the thyroid substances caused an increase in the BMR. Parke, Davis'' thyroid appeared to be the most calorigenic, Armour''s thyroid the least, while Thyroglobulin occupied an intermediary position. All patients were on a submaintenance diet and wt. loss was observed not only in these 3 groups but also in those who received placebos. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
