Abstract
The growth of stock strains of Sporotrichum schenckii, Coccidioides immitis, Histoplasma capsulatum, Phialophora verrucosa and Trichophyton mentagrophytes, not previously exposed to streptomycin, was stimulated when this antibiotic was incorporated in a liquid synthetic medium composed of inorganic salts and 0.5% glucose. The stimulatory effect was noted in concentrations as small as 0.01 mg./ml. and increased proportionally with increasing concns. of streptomycin up to 2.5 mg./ml., at which level maximum growth was obtained. This observation was made in media adjusted to pH 4, 6, and 8, incubated at a constant temp. of 28[degree] C for a period of not less than 4 weeks. Keywords
