Some Physical and Chemical Characteristics of Normal Eggs, Larvae, and Chorions of the House Fly, Musca domestica1

Abstract
Eggs of the house fly, Musca domestica L., of an insecticide-susceptible strain maintained since 1961, averaged 1.20 mm long and 0.275 mm in diameter. Individual egg weights ranged from 38 to 67 μg, and the average for more than 2000 eggs was 55 μg. Chorion weights averaged 5 μg. Newly hatched larvae weighed from 32 to 72 μg, with 47 μg the average. Freshly oviposited eggs had an average moisture content of 75%, and their protein content was approximately 10%.
