Abstract
The proton and neutron effective charges needed to reproduce the observed data on the transitions between the ground state bands of the isotopes of , , , and are found to be e, e. These charges were obtained by a least-squares fit between the deformed configuration mixing shell model calculated and the observed values for the transitions in these nuclei. These values support the charges e, e obtained recently by Kuo and Osnes in a microscopic calculation and the charges e, e obtained on the basis of macroscopic estimates of Bohr and Mottelson.
