Abstract
Oral administration of glucose, protein and fat is followed by a decrease in the plasma concentration of non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA). The fall depends on the type and amount of the foodstuff administered. The decrease induced by oral administration of oleic acid and animal and vegetable fats is only of short, while that following ingestion of glucose and protein is of longer duration. Administration of barium sulphate does not result in a change in the plasma NEFA concentration.
