Improved measurement of the pseudoscalar decay constant $f_{D_{s}}$

Abstract

We present a new determination of

f_{D_{s}}

using 5 million

e^{+} e^{-} \to c \bar{c}

events obtained with the CLEO II detector. Our value is derived from our new measured ratio

Γ {(D}_{s}^{+} \to μ^{+} ν) / Γ {(D}_{s}^{+} \to φ π^{+}) = 0.173 \pm 0.023 \pm 0.035

. Using

B {(D}_{s}^{+} \to φ π^{+}) = (3.6 \pm 0.9)

%, we extract

f_{D_{s}} = (280 \pm 19 \pm 28 \pm 34) MeV

. We compare this result with various model calculations.
