High spin states in the doubly oddBr72nucleus

Abstract
States of Br72 were studied through the Ni58(O16,np) reaction at E=40 to 55 MeV. From the excitation function, γ-ray angular distribution, γγ coincidence and decay measurements, γ rays depopulating states with probable spin values ranging up to I=(9) were found. An isomeric state of T12=10.3±0.6 sec, and Iπ=(1) at 101.0 keV excitation energy was found. The observation of certain similarities with a recently reported band in Br74 suggests that the collective features seen in heavier Br isotopes may persist in Br72.
