Abstract
The temperature profiles of a semi-infinite slab heated with a scanning laser beam are calculated. The effects of the scanning velocity, the beam radius, and the beam shape on the temperature profiles are investigated. It is demonstrated that there exists a critical velocity below which the effects of the moving source become practically neglibible. The critical velocity is equal to the ratio of the diffusivity to the beam radius. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
