Abstract
The distribution of mRNA transcripts for the six known protein kinase C (PKC) genes has been investigated by quantitative in situ hybridization histochemistry. PKC-delta transcripts were detected only in the thalamus and PKC-zeta was found in several areas including the supraoptic (SON) and paraventricular (PVN) nuclei. Activation of magnocellular cells in the SON and PVN following 7 days of saline-loading resulted in increased levels of PKC-zeta transcripts in both of these nuclei.
