Abstract
Both morphological and growth characteristics of a phage of Streptomyces griseus have been studied. In general, light and electron photomicrographs depicted an infection cycle similar to bacteriophage - host phage systems. In glucose nutrient broth the latent period for multiplication was 120-125 minutes and the yield per spore 75-100 phage units. A described, chemically defined medium gave a somewhat shorter period and greater burst size. The amino acid cysteine proved to be inhibitory to phage development. An observed inhibitory effect of sodium and potassium was removed by the addition of calcium. Keywords
