Abstract
The minimal nutritive requirements of 16 spp. and vars. of the phytopathogenic genus Erwinia were detd. With few exceptions, the Erwinia cultures grew, from small inocula, in the simple NH4CI, glucose, and salts basal medium. The fire-blight bacterium, E. amylovora, required obligately the addition of nicotinic acid for growth. The significance of these findings is considered in relation to problems of determination and taxonomy in Erwinia. Keywords
