Abstract
Moderate dehydration causes a decrease in glomerular filtration, renal plasma flow and glucose and p-aminohippurate Tm''s without appreciably changing the filtration fraction. These effects become more prominent as dehydration progresses. Excessive hydration produces the reverse effects. Dehydration is believed to inactivate, hydration to increase the number of active nephrons. This mechanism is believed to be an additional mechanism for maintaining fluid balance in the dog. Keywords
