Abstract
Some new EPR spectra of alkali chloride containing vanadium are reported. The paramagnetic complex V2+–vacancy, which dominates in quenched crystals, decomposes under X and γ irradiation at room temperature (in NaCl and KCl) and under high uniaxial pressure (in KCl and RbCl). The study of the resulting isotropic EPR spectra proves that the new paramagnetic centre consists of a V2+ ion in a cubic environment. The conversion under pressure is due to running dislocations, which absorb the charge compensating vacancy. With X irradiation, the conversion is one order faster in KCl than in NaCl.Keywords
