Hereditary Addison's Disease and Multiple Endocrine Adenomatosis in a Kindred

Abstract
A kindred is described in which multiple endocrine adenomatosis was present in the mother and Addison''s disease was present in 4 of her children. Clinical, laboratory, and pathological findings are reported. Circulating adrenal, thyroid, and parathyroid antibody studies using the indirect Coons test are also reported. Circulating adrenal antibodies were found in all 3 living affected siblings and in one non-affected sibling who was tested. Evidence is presented that supports the concepts of genetically determined predisposition to autoimmunity and of polyglandular autoimm unity.
