Abstract
A proteolytic enzyme was obtained from human normal plasma by treatment with chloroform and subsequent separation of the euglobulin fraction of the chloroform treated plasma. The proteolytic activity of the plasma prep. was measured 1) by the time of dissolution of the clot produced in the plasma under the influence of chloroform; 2) by the proteolytic activity on fibrinogen of the final prep. Using these methods, it was shown that hemophilic plasma was markedly deficient in proteolytic activity as compared to normal plasma. The significance of this fact in relation to the coagulation defect in hemophilia is discussed. Keywords
