STUDIES ON BLOOD COAGULATION: A PROTEOLYTIC ENZYME PREPARED FROM CALCIUM AND PLATELET FREE NORMAL HUMAN BLOOD PLASMA 1

Abstract
The authors by treatment of Ca free and cell free human plasma with chloroform obtain a euglobulin fraction capable of causing fibrinolysis and fibrinogenolysis. The enzyme has clotting properties for plasma. It is inhibited by fractions of plasma containing high conc. of prothrombin. Its activity is independent of platelets. Similarly, activity can be conferred upon inactive plasma euglobulin and globulin substance by treatment with chloroform. The properties of the plasma enzyme are described.
