Abstract
The uptake of PAH by renal cortical slices of male rats is greater than that of the female. Administration of testosterone propionate will increase accumulation of PAH by kidney slices of normal and castrated female rats, but not of the normal male. When estrone is given to normal male rats in 4 or more doses, a significant reduction of the PAH uptake by kidney slices is seen, but O2 comsumption is unaffected. In hypophysectomized rats the uptake of PAH and O2 consumption of kidney slices is markedly reduced. Castration does not cause a further reduction. Testosterone increases size of the kidneys and O2 consumption. in hypophysectomized rats, but does not increase PAH uptake by renal cortical slices. Keywords
