Abstract
High-spin states in Hg186 with a quadrupole deformation of β2=0.34(4) have been established from measured gamma-ray coincidences and lifetimes. These data, which provide the first evidence for a deformation midway between normal and super deformed, can be interpreted in terms of the [651] 1/2 and [770] 1/2 neutron configurations. Keywords
