Comparison of Renal Endogenous Creatinine and Inulin Clearances in the Rat

Abstract
Ratio of renal endogenous creatinine clearance to renal inulin clearance in a group of 43 normal and parathyroidectomized rats is 0.90. This ratio appears to show no clear correlation with changes in serum creatinine concentration although there is a tendency for slightly higher values to be found in those animals with depressed inulin clearances. There is no evidence from these studies for the existence of tubular secretion of endogenous creatinine. It is concluded, therefore, that where it offers technical advantage and the highest order of accuracy is not essential, endogenous creatinine clearance may be utilized as an index of glomerular filtration rate in the rat.
