Quasimolecular states ofMg24excited in theO16+12C interaction

Abstract
The study of the O16 +12C12C+12C+α reaction performed at E(16O)=113 MeV shows evidence for the excitation of resonant states of Mg24, eventually decaying in the C12 +12C channel, with a width of about 500 keV. From the angular correlation of the two emitted C12 ions a value J=14 is obtained for the spin of two resonances at 35.1 and 36.3 MeV excitation energy. This allows for an intepretation in terms of quasimolecular states of Mg24. The data are compared with previous results obtained at 85 MeV incident energy, and the role of the angular momentum transfer in the reaction process is discussed.
