EFFECT OF ACETATE ON THE RENAL EXCRETION OF P-AMINOHIPPURATE IN THE DOG

Abstract
The effect of Na acetate infusions on the maximal rate of tubular excretion (Tm) of p-aminohippurate (PAH) was examined in 14 expts. by clearance techniques. TmPAH was increased 44 to 85% by intraven. admin. of 66 to 210[mu] [image] acetate/kg./min. independently of changes in glomerular filtration rate or urine flow. Lactate elevates the TmPAH, succinate and fumarate depress, and NaCl and NaHCO3 have little effect. Acetate also increases the Tm of acetyl PAH, but has no effect on reabsorptive glucose Tm.
